For businesses relying on vast commercial space – such as storage, logistics or light industrial units – electricity costs for lighting, security and climate control represent a major operational overhead. At Lincs Renewables, we specialise in designing and installing high-capacity, durable commercial solar panels tailored to the consistent, high-demand energy profiles of commercial properties.

The client’s objectives were clear: reduce long‑term energy costs while protecting the business from future price volatility.

This case study highlights a successful 50kWp installation on a commercial storage shed, designed specifically to deliver maximum operational efficiency and rapid return on investment.

The Client’s Operational Challenges

The client operates a large commercial storage business. Their main objectives were centred on financial efficiency and future-proofing:

Brigg Solar Panel Installation

  1. Massive Cost Reduction: Significantly slash the high and predictable daily electricity consumption associated with running a large warehouse (lighting, ventilation, security).
  2. Optimised Generation Profile: Design a system that generates power consistently throughout the long commercial workday, rather than just peaking midday.
  3. Durability and Longevity: Ensure a robust, commercial-grade solar panel installation that would withstand environmental factors and require minimal maintenance over its 25+ year lifespan.

The Lincs Renewables 50kWp Solution

To meet the client’s commercial objectives, we designed a large, optimised system focusing on output consistency and operational reliability:

Component Specification Benefit
Solar Array Size 114 x 435W JA Solar Panels (49.59kWp Total) A high-output system engineered to meet the high and sustained energy demand of a commercial building.
Panel Orientation East/West Configuration Crucial for commercial sites. Generates consistent, lower-peak power from early morning until late afternoon, perfectly aligning with commercial operating hours and maximising daily self-consumption.
Array Structure 6 Rows of 19 Panels Maximises roof space utilisation while maintaining optimal spacing and ventilation.
Inverter 1 x 50kW Solax Commercial Inverter A high-capacity unit positioned centrally near the main electrical intake for efficient power conversion and streamlined AC wiring.
Protection Bird Blocker Installation A necessary perimeter defence installed on all edges of the array to prevent nesting, protecting wiring integrity and mitigating fire risk.

The final installation consisted of 114 high‑efficiency solar panels arranged in an east‑west configuration. This layout allows the system to generate electricity from early morning through to late afternoon, closely matching business operating hours and maximising on‑site consumption.

A 50kW commercial‑grade inverter was installed close to the main electrical intake, ensuring efficient integration with the existing infrastructure and minimising cable runs. The array was mounted using robust commercial rail systems, providing long‑term stability across the large roof area.

To protect the system and reduce maintenance risks, full bird protection was installed around the perimeter of the array. This preventative measure safeguards cabling and helps ensure consistent performance over the system’s lifespan.

Technical Execution: Engineered for Commercial Reliability

The success of a large-scale commercial project hinges on meticulous engineering and durable components:

  • East/West Optimisation: By splitting the array between East and West, we ensured that peak production periods were flattened and extended. This approach guarantees strong energy yields when the business needs it most – at open and close – instead of generating massive, potentially unused surplus power only at noon. This directly translates to higher self-consumption and faster financial returns.
  • Commercial-Grade Mounting: All 114 panels were securely mounted on high-quality aluminum rails, ensuring exceptional stability and longevity, even on large, exposed roof surfaces.
  • Seamless Integration: The 50kW Solax inverter was installed precisely at the mains location, allowing for the shortest and most efficient AC wiring route to connect the system directly into the existing commercial electrical infrastructure.

Project Outcomes: The Financial Impact

Since installation, the system has delivered predictable and reliable savings. A significant portion of the facility’s electricity demand is now met by on‑site generation, reducing grid dependency and improving cost certainty.

Here is how we met our client’s financial and operational goals:

Solar Panels on Commercial Roof

  • Predictable and Guaranteed Savings: The business now has a reliable, internally generated power source, providing predictable energy costs and protection against volatile grid tariff increases.
  • Maximising Self-Consumption: The East/West design strategy ensures the vast majority of the generated power is used instantly on-site, minimising the need to purchase expensive electricity and maximising the value of every kWh produced.
  • Reduced Operational Footprint: The commercial storage facility demonstrates clear environmental responsibility, a growing requirement for corporate clients and regulatory compliance.

This project demonstrates how welldesigned commercial solar installations can turn large roof spaces into valuable assets, delivering financial resilience and supporting sustainability goals for years to come.

The Value of Commercial Solar Panels

Commercial solar panels offer businesses a practical way to reduce energy costs while improving long-term sustainability. By generating renewable electricity on-site, businesses can significantly cut their reliance on the grid and lower operating expenses, helping protect against rising energy prices.

Although there is an upfront investment, commercial solar systems typically deliver a strong return over time through consistent energy savings. Adding battery storage can further increase efficiency by allowing excess energy generated during the day to be stored and used when demand is higher.

Beyond the financial benefits, commercial solar panels also strengthen a business’s environmental credentials, demonstrating a clear commitment to sustainability and future-focused operations. For many organisations, solar is not just an energy solution, it’s a smart strategic investment.

Is Your Commercial Roof an Untapped Asset?

If you operate a warehouse, logistics hub, farm or industrial unit and are looking for a reliable way to reduce your overhead and future-proof your business, a commercial solar installation is the answer. We specialise in projects from 10kWp to over 100kWp.
